what kind of dog is he?? I know some dogs, particularly working/running varieties will "void" themselves at the start of a walk in anticipation of running later...my oldest male Deerhound does this on the walk up to the vets, and yes it is embarrassing when it gets to the mushy 'orrible bi...

the "violently sniffing" and "pushing round" made me think back to the litter of pups we had in the summer. They were kept in the study away from the hustle and bustle until they were about 6 weeks old, then we erected a large pen in the family room. The pups were allowed out to ...

so sorry. Hope you are feeling less bereft now. I know it's no comparison, but I lost a pup after 2 days of trying to hand rear her after she was born, I cried for another 2 days, and she is under an agapanthus that I pray will make it through this winter....although she was with me for such a short...

have just joined here and been reading posts during my night shifts....how very very sad for you I can't begin to understand how you must have felt, or how you may still be feeling, but as an owner of dogs and cats, and never having to have made this decision, or experienced what you have tragically...

my too youngest deerhounds beg for raw broccoli!! They love it! I advocate raw feeding, but I still feed a dry food occasionally, more for practicality or for when I've forgotten to get the necessary food out of freezer etc  Try not to worry too much. My only concern with a young dog would be ...

as emmabeth said - take lots of pics of him, yes dogs are treated as property, but if he is stolen (and I hope he never is) then it can't hurt to have lots of pics. Microchipping is good, but be aware where the chip is, thieves WILL dig them out...another option is tattooing in ears, and maybe put a...

agree with Maggie - I have one hound who loves being in the show ring, loved his ringcraft, but isn't what I consider good enough, and now I have a gorgeous boy, who hates ringcraft, appears to hate all other dogs and isn't shy about telling them  and cringes when in the showring, yet at home ...

Dearlady, I know a deerhound ***** who didn't come on heat until she was 4. The owners then had her spayed, which surprised me, but they said they couldn't cope with another season! One of my favourite breeds. goodness - 4 yrs old!! I don't think I would've spayed, but without knowing full c...

maybe she just can't hold herself as long. My 5 yr old ***** had started having the occasional accident overnight, or during the day if she was left too long....though since she has been left on her own in the kitchen, rather than loose in the sitting room, she doesn't seem to have had any more - to...

a much debated topic. I think a sensible option for anyone considering spaying a ***** is to wait for the bitches SECOND season, as that should give an indication of time scale BETWEEN seasons, as has previously been pointed out, a ***** that has only 3 seasons in 9 years is hardly a priority case, ...

it varies from breed to breed. I have read that in my breed, Deerhounds, the age the ***** has her first season dictates the gap between seasons. I'm not sure how accurate this is. My oldest Deerhound ***** will be 5 in April, she came to me as an adult, and had seasons every 6 months. She has since...
