Re: Keep your pooch safer.
The carrier I have is made by Nature's Miracle, from Petsmart. It has a metal tube frame and the outside is covered by nylon cloth. The frame is designed so that you can collapse the carrier when you're not using it. I don't know if this is the safest product, but I DO know that he won't be jumping ...

Keep your pooch safer.
Recently, I was in a car wreck. My car was pushed into the car in front of me; by someone who had fallen asleep at the wheel of her car. I was LIVID! When the police and ambulance arrive, I called my husband. He came and got our dog from the car. I thought our dog would be OK in the back of my car, ...

Re: How can post a picture of my dog?
I can't reduce the window, so I can't add the pix. I'm a computer dinosaur. Will check with hubby to see if he can do it. I want to post pix of my current dog, and the one before him. Both awseome dogs.
Thanks for the input; I'll get it done somehow!

Maybe SOMEDAY I will be able to post a picture of Eastwood. He is exceptionally good looking.
Perhaps I'm a LITTLE proud of how handsome he is.
Cross your fingers, I may post a picture.

Re: Personality Change
Thanks so much for your input. He actually has calmed down all by him self. He loves people, and when he's had enough petting at the park, he just runs off to play.
He has had a checkup recently, so I think he was just going through a phase.

Personality Change
Our Catahoula Leopard dog is young. Maybe 1 or 1.5. Has always been good at the dog park. Everybody wants to pet him. Last week he started growling at some dogs. Today he lunged at an old dog. His owner was so upset, he asked which way my husband was going. He also has not wanted to eat much in the ...

Re: herding breeds
What about using mixed breeds? They are generally hardier, and somewhat less likely to have ingrained tendencies.

Re: Catahoula Leopard Dog?
Our last dog, Smokey, was a terrific dog. He was half greyhound, half pitbull. He had to be put to sleep before he was 4 years old, because he developed a neurological condition that the vets could not fix. It broke our hearts! A few days later, my husband said he wanted another dog. I said I did to...

Re: Catahoula Leopard Dog?
From what I have read, Catahoulas can be prone to barking and hard to train. We got a Catahoula from a rescue group. The guy said he had been returned from 2 different homes. We went to see the dog, and he seemed very sweet. The rescue guy showed us how well he walked on a leash, and played with toy...

Re: My SBT will not come back when called!
When I walk away from my dog and call his name, at the dog park, he runs after me. If I don't call him, he notices that I'm moving away, and he runs after me.
I know that this is different than walking without a leash, outside the dog park, but it seems to be helping him to keep track of me.

Petsmart in the US sells different sizes. Also, Dr's Foster and Smith catalog sells them.
I give my dog a stuffed femur bone. It's very tough. It came stuffed with some aromatic; but he got all of it out, and he still loves it.

Re: incessant peeing while out on walks
Have you discussed this with your vet? A UTI could be part of the problem. Either way, I think it's smart to check for physical issues first. Ever had a UTI? Makes you feel like peeing almost non-stop. Really painful.

I live in NC and am familiar with the Carolina Dog. Our state dog is a Plott Hound.
I think dogs who aren't purebred should be called mixed breeds. Mongrel doesn't have a good connotation.

Re: Escape artist
Sorry for the long pause. Smokey was half greyound, so he loved to run. He bolted through a screen door once, and just dashed out the door a few other times. He was not about to be walked, he just bolted. He has since been put to sleep, due to a horrible brain problem that put him in a lot of pain. ...
