Re: Desperate for Puppy Help!

Start out practicing that in your back yard so if he decides hes not playing by the rules, you can drop the lead and just walk away (effectively a time out), and build up to going out in the real world (where you cant drop the lead and walk away but you could 'park up' by hooking his leash over som...

So much calmer

I've been stepping up Luna's training a bit, taking her to our neighborhood park twice a day when it's at it's crowdedist. I've also been feeding Luna every bit of her breakfast and dinner when she sees another dog, as well as practicing with the leash. Today, we saw probably a total of 16 dogs and ...

Re: My dog is herding cats and I am curious.

Thank you Nettle :D She is quite the looker.

Bonnie's adorable! Luna's muzzle is a lot like hers only shorter. We do have a ridiculous amount of labs in Texas, but they are all yellow and the big fat show type with the massive head. I'll just call her a lab/collie of some sort. Thanks, y'all.

Re: Snakes

Wow, that's freaky! I didn't even know there were snakes in MN. A couple of weeks ago I let Luna outside and she stepped on a coral snake that was just sitting right outside the door. She crept past it back inside the house and my mom shovelled it to pieces. The funny thing is, even after it was dea...

My dog is herding cats and I am curious.

I wrote on this board a little while ago, wondering about Luna's breed (the thread is still on the first page somewhere, actually). For awhile, lab/GSD made sense because those are popular dogs around here. But now I'm not so sure. I feel like she has some sheepdog in her. (DISCLAIMER: sorry if this...

Re: Need advice...

The question is... just how cooperative and willing would your dad be to load up puzzles and stuff for Luna to do? From my experience, not only personally, but also with *most* young dog owners' fathers on this forum, dads really couldn't be bothered with going to such great lengths to ensure a dog...

Need advice...

We might be going to visit some relatives on a few weeks. Usually Luna comes with, but we're flying this time and we can't afford to bring her as well. My dad would stay home but he's at work all day, so Luna would be alone in the backyard for at least 12 hours at a stretch. We're not sure about goi...

Re: Update on Luna (I'm failing so badly!)

Dogs often get worse before they get better, this can show that what you are doing is working, to her she used to chase the other dogs away, we know she didn't, she doesn't know that. Now she is no longer chasing the dogs away so could be trying harder to chase them. Until she is more settled when ...

Update on Luna (I'm failing so badly!)

Unfortunatly I haven't gotten very far with Luna at all. I haven't really been doing loose leash walking with her because I'd rather focus on recall and her dog problem. I started taking her out onto these soccer fields (surrounded by woods) and working on the long line with her. She was doing reall...

Re: Me again... What's next?

The pug does seem very confident. He's got attitude, lol. And I think it is Luna trying to protect her guts when she lies down, because when a dog aproaches/ is behind us she gets really paranoid that they are trying to sneak up on her and it's very hard to get her to move. I still feel like she has...

Me again... What's next?

Sorry I ask so many questions; it's your guys' fault for being so helpful :D I've been working with Luna when we see another dog and she's been doing very good. Yesterday she saw 6 dogs and I was able to get her calm every time. The thing is, I'm only taking her to the park a couple times a day inst...

Re: Got dog? Texas legislation is gunning for you

AUGGGHHHHHHH!!!! That infuriates me sooo much! What about the people on 600 acre ranches who need their dogs to her cattle? that's so unfair, especially since my own city has so many wonderfully behaved dogs. I want to beat someone >:(

Is it only unnuetered male dogs or every dog?

Re: Luna scared a man last night :P

I sometimes think the best kinds of frights to have are the ones that turn out to be nothing to be afraid of afterall. It lets us know we're still alive, and have a pulse, but without actually experiencing harm. i know, that's why ppl love scary movies I guess. I was trying not to laugh last night ...

Luna scared a man last night :P

Last night Luna woke me up to let her outside, and then went to wait by the door while I lolled around, trying to get myself out of bed. Suddenly, I hear this demonic superbark. THERES A MAN OUTSIDE OUR HOUSE! Oh my gosh! I'm creeping down the hall and she's still barking. She has this really tough,...

Re: OCD Tail Chasing

I've never in my life seen a dog chase it's tail, but I was reading The Dog Who Loved Too Much. I don't like that guy- he gives drugs if the dog is scared of the vaacuum cleaner, but he started talking about mental disorders, esp. OCD tail chasing. Apparently it can be OCD and som dogs get so bad th...
