I think all of you might like these two writings...
A message from your future dog

Treat me kindly, my beloved master, for no heart in all the world is more
grateful for kindness than the loving heart of mine.

Do not break my spirit with a stick, for your patience and understanding will more quickly teach me the things you would have me do. Speak to me often, for your voice is the world's sweetest music, as you must know by the fierce wagging of my tail when your footstep falls upon my waiting ear.

When it is cold and wet, take me inside, for I am now a domesticated animal, no longer used to bitter elements.

And I ask no greater glory than the privilege of sitting at your feet. Though had you no home, I would rather follow you through ice and snow than rest upon the softest pillow in the warmest home in all the land, for you are my god and I am your devoted worshiper.

Keep my pan filled with fresh water, for although I should not reproach you were it dry, I cannot tell you when I suffer thirst. Feed me clean food, that I may stay well, to romp and play and do your bidding, to walk by your side, and stand ready and able to protect you with my life should your life be in danger.

And, BELOVED MASTER, should the GREAT MASTER see fit to deprive me of my sight, hearing and health, do not turn me away from you. Do not make heroic efforts to keep me going, I am not having any fun and I can no longer protect you. Hold me gently in your arms as skilled hands grant me the merciful boon of Eternal Rest.

I shall leave this earth knowing with the last breath I draw, that my fate was always safest in your loving hands. *~Author unknown
WHEN I AM OLD

When I am old... I will wear soft gray sweatshirts... and a bandana over my silver hair... and I will spend my social security checks on wine and my dogs.

I will sit in my house on my well-worn chair and listen to my dogs breathing. I will sneak out in the middle of a warm summer night and take my dogs for a run, if my old bones will allow...

When people come to call, I will smile and nod as I show them my dogs... and talk of them and about them... the ones so beloved of the past and the ones so beloved of today...

I will still work hard cleaning after them, mopping and feeding them, and whispering their names in a soft loving way.

I will be an embarrassment to all... who have not yet found the peace in being free to have dogs as your best friends...

These friends who always wait, at any hour, for your footfall... and eagerly jump to their feet out of a sound sleep, to greet you as if you are a God, with warm eyes full of adoring love and hope that you will always stay...

I'll hug their big strong necks... I'll kiss their dear sweet heads... and whisper in their very special company....

I look in the mirror... and see I am getting old.... this is the kind of person I am... and have always been.

Loving dogs is easy, they are part of me.
